Choral Stations of the Cross

A solemn devotion of the  Stations of the Cross, as composed by Saint John Henry Newman, will be accompanied with music of Passiontide, performed by Musica Tevere’s chamber ensemble of voices, continuo organ, strings and flute, and conducted by Artistic Director Rebecca Ostermann.

Traditionally the sung meditations are verses of the hymn Stabat Mater. In that tradition, Musica Tevere will offer Marc Antoine Charpentier’s Stabat Mater as the centerpiece of the musical interludes, along with excerpts from J.S. Bach’s Saint John Passion. Other works, rich musical jewels in honor of the suffering Christ and His Holy Mother, include Victoria’s O vos omnes, Grancini’s Dulcis Christe, and Zelenka’s Sepultum Domino. The program will also feature the world premiere of a new motet Tristis est anima mea by Dorothea Wang. The attending congregation will be invited to join in singing hymn verses at intervals along the way, in the tradition of the Bach Passion.

Musica Tevere in concert, October, 2024

In our debut concert on  October 29, 2023, Musica Tevere performed the American premiere of Hummel’s oratorio, Der Durchzug durchs Rote Meer (The Passing through the Red Sea,) along with the Lotti’s glorious Missa Sapientiae. Our ensemble of masterful Philadelphia musicians and singers, under the conducting of Rebecca Ostermann, gave the audience a thrilling and beautiful experience of a lifetime. Thank you to them, our supporters, Saint Colman Church, and those who attended. We will post videos and more on the concert here soon.

Musica Tevere is making plans for our future programs. Please join our email list so we can provide you with news and announcements.
